The Harley-Davidson did start to became famous when William Harley and Arthur Davidson produced last 1903 the first output of motorcycle. The motorbike was to be a racing bike, and was built in a small shed wooden with the words Harley-Davidson Motor Company written on the front door. When Harley-Davidson won the first race last 1905, they hired their first employee. 3 years later, they sold the first motorcycle to the Detroit Police Department and was used as a police service. H-D built 6 story factory in 1912 then started to export their first bikes to Japan.
1914 marks the year H-D formally goes in itself into the national racing circuit, and is immediately known as “The Wrecking Crew” for it’s dominance in the racing industry. By 1917 one-third of all motorcycles manufactured would be sold to the military, and has also been the start of the Service School for Harley-Davidson Mechanics, for both military and civilian bikes.
Half of the bikes in 1918 were transported to Military service of World War 1 and it was Roy Holtz the first soldier have ridden the H-D Motorcycle in Germany. H-D became the largest company of motorcycle in 1920. That were there over 2000 dealers in 67 countries throughout the world.
The Harley-Davidson competitor’s were gone in 1931 except for the Indian Motorcycle Company. Harley-Davidson and Indian are the only two motorcycle companies in America, until 1953.
Because the world enters into World War 2, so does Harley turn back into Military motorcycle generation, and the service school is transformed back to the military motorcycle service school, also known as the Quartermaster School for military mechanics. This is the very time that the public had a hard time to acquire their hands on a H-D Motorcycle.
